Drying time of coating varies with temperature, humidity and ventilation. When low temperatures, high humidity or poor ventilation exist, longer drying times should be allowed.

If coatings are stored at low temperatures, allow them to return to 60-80° F. before thinning or using. Use only recommended thinners and avoid using foreign thinners since they may cause gelling, blushing, blistering or wrinkling.

Do not apply coatings when air, surface or material temperature is below 45° F. or above 100° F. Avoid painting when relative humidity is above 85% or during periods of rain, snow or fog.

To store partially used containers, pour a small amount of the recommended thinner over the surface. Do not stir. Replace lid securely. Store away from heat or open flame. Mix thoroughly before reusing. Keep packaged material from freezing. Protect the paint can label; it has useful information such as brand, color and coverage rate. Don't open more cans than you need.

Once the surface has been prepared, it must not be allowed to become contaminated by the formation of surface oxides or with windborne or other contaminants. Apply coatings as soon as possible after surface preparation has been completed.

Brushes- Use only the best quality, be sure that the mountings are not attacked by the solvents in the coating. Keep filled with paint and avoid excessive working. Always work towards edges and sharp corners.

Rollers- Use short naps for flat surfaces, medium to long naps for rough or textured surfaces.

Spray guns- Use caps, needles and spray tips specified by the coating manufacturer. Keep gun at a constant distance from the surface and perpendicular to it. Trigger each stroke and avoid arcing.

Clean up brushes and equipment immediately after use with the clean up solvent recommended.

Coatings must be prepared for application according to instructions on data sheets and container labels. Mix thoroughly before each use. If multiple containers have been purchased, "box" them to insure consistent color and sheen. "Boxing" is the inter-mixing of two or more cans of finish into a third container.

Individual components of multi-component coatings must be thoroughly stirred before mixing.
