EVENTONE SPAR VARNISH S5-4 0615
DESCRIPTION:
A premium quality varnish for any inside or outside use. It dries to a high gloss and levels out without showing brush marks. An ideal finish for exterior doors, lawn furniture or any other exterior surface requiring a long wearing varnish. It can also be used in marine type applications. Spar varnish may also be used on interior applications such as floors, cabinets and trim.
Do not apply directly to bare concrete because the alkali in the concrete will destroy the film and cause peeling and flaking.
Do not apply Spar Varnish when surface, air or material temperature is below 40° F. (4° C.)
All surfaces must be clean and dry prior to varnishing. Remove dirt, oil and grease by washing with trisodium phosphate (TSP) and thoroughly rinse with clean water and let dry. Remove soil, pencil marks and grade stamps by sanding. Remove loose wood fibers with a stiff brush. Caulk cracks around windows, door frames, etc. Nail down loose siding if necessary.
MILDEW: Where mildew is present apply a solution of 1 part household bleach and 3 part water to kill and remove mildew. Rinse thoroughly with water and let dry.
CAUTION: Do not mix bleach solution with ammonia or detergents containing ammonia. Wear rubber gloves and eye goggles to protect eyes and skin. Protect grass, trees and shrubs.
NEW WOOD - To reduce wood surface deterioration, apply varnish as soon as possible after wood installation is complete. Be sure wood is clean, dry and mildew free.
WEATHERED WOOD - Power washing is an effective method of removing dirt, discoloration and bleeding (extractive) stains. Follow manufacturer's recommendations and warnings prior to using high pressure washers. If power washing is not practical or wood is extremely discolored, application of equal parts water and household bleach will lighten wood color and kill mildew. Wear protective goggles and gloves. In addition, protect grass, trees and shrubs. Rinse thoroughly and let dry.
Mix thoroughly before and during application. Do not shake. Product is ready to apply, do not thin. Do not apply when surface is hot (i.e. in direct sunlight). For best results, use a natural bristle brush. Roller application should be limited to rough surfaces only. Keep a wet edge to avoid lap marks. If an additional coat is desired, wait at least 12 hours before applying a second coat. Prior to the second coat, sand lightly and remove sanding dust with lint free cloth or tack rag.
