EVER-BRIGHT ALUMINUM PAINT S5-13  0635

DESCRIPTION:

Ever-Bright Aluminum Paint is a premium quality, bright leafing aluminum paint for interior or exterior use. Aluminum Paint can be used on new or previously painted metal, wood and masonry surfaces such as machinery, piping, structural steel, tanks and other maintenance or rough product finishing. May be used where surface reaches 150° F regularly and 250° F intermittently. Product may be applied by brush, roller or spray. This product should not be used as a primer for other paint.

SPECIAL CAUTIONS:

Leafing aluminum pigments are coated with stearate, which is a form of soap, so they do not make good primers for other finishes.

SURFACE PREPARATION:

GENERAL - Surfaces must be clean. Remove oil and grease with appropriate cleaner. Clean off dirt with a detergent solution and rinse with clean water.

UNFINISHED SURFACES:

IRON AND STEEL - Remove rust by sandblasting, wirebrushing, scraping or sanding. Apply one coat of metal primer and allow to dry overnight before topcoating.

GALVANIZED METAL – Wipe surface clean using mineral spirits to remove oil and grease. Prime with galvanized metal primer and allow to dry overnight before topcoating.

ALUMINUM - Sand surface lightly with fine sandpaper.

WOOD - Sand smooth, counter-sink nails. Seal knots and sap streaks with shellac and allow to dry overnight. Fill nail holes and cracks with a quality wood putty or caulk. Spot prime with oil wood primer and allow primer to dry before topcoating.

MASONRY AND CONCRETE - Hard, slick concrete should be etched with a 10% solution of Muriatic (Hydrochloric) Acid. When etching action is complete, flush off surface with clean water and allow to dry thoroughly.

CAUTION!! WHEN USING MURATIC ACID ALWAYS READ AND FOLLOW THE MANUFACTURE'S DIRECTIONS AND USE THE PROPER PERSONAL PROTECTIVE DEVICES.

May be applied direct to thoroughly aged and dry concrete. For best results on old concrete surfaces, a prime coat of Masonry Sealer should be applied and allowed to dry before topcoating.

PREVIOUSLY FINISHED SURFACES:

Remove all loose and peeling paint by scraping, wirebrushing, power washing or sanding. Spot prime all bare areas with recommended primer and allow to dry before topcoating. Replace all missing or loose caulking around door and window areas.

Wash off dirt and chalk with a detergent solution, then rinse off with a strong stream of water. Slick soaps may form on the surface of aged but unexposed old house paint films particularly under eaves. These will prevent adhesion of the new paint unless removed using the same procedure as for dirt and chalk.

Remove mildew using a commercial mildew remover or a solution of one quart household chlorine bleach with three quarts of water. Protect eyes with goggles and hands with rubber gloves. Apply solution to affected areas and allow to stand until mildew is bleached and then rinse well with water. Badly affected areas may require two treatments.

MIXING:

Stir each container thoroughly prior to use. Apply at package viscosity.

APPLICATION:

When brushing or rolling, apply in a smooth, even coat using parallel strokes for best appearance. For maximum leafing, do not re-brush or re-roll when partially dry.

For small smooth areas, as 1/4" to 3/8" nap synthetic roller cover may be used. On tanks and similar large steel structures, use a 1" nap synthetic or lambs wool roller cover for best results.

For spray application, use the following recommendations as a guide:

CLEAN UP:

Clean brushes and equipment with mineral spirits. Dispose of unused paint and waste in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.

COVERAGE:

One gallon of Liquid Aluminum should be applied at application rate of 450 square feet per gallon (42 square meters per 3.785 liters) on smooth surface. Rough surfaces will require more paint. Add 10-15% for loss and wastage when figuring paint requirements. Approximate dry mil thickness of 1.5 to 1.3 at recommended application rate of 450-500 square feet per gallon on smooth surface.

DRYING:

Optimum drying conditions are 60° F. to 90° F. (16° C. to 32° C.) at 50% R.H.
