SURFACE PREPARATION:

GENERAL - All surfaces must be dry and free from dirt, oil, grease, wax and rust. Remove oil and grease with paint thinner. Clean off dirt with a detergent solution and rinse with clean water. Refer to "Surface Preparation Guide" for more detailed instructions.

UNFINISHED SURFACES:

WOOD - Sand smooth and remove sanding dust. Counter sink nail. Seal all knots and sap streaks with shellac. Apply first coat of floor enamel. Allow to dry overnight and putty holes and cracks. When putty is dry, apply succeeding coats of floor enamel.

MASONRY AND CONCRETE - When concrete floors rest directly on the ground, as do most basement and patio floors, moisture may penetrate the concrete from the ground below. The moisture will destroy the adhesive bond of any enamel used on the concrete. To test for this condition prior to painting, place a rubber mat on the floor overnight. If the floor contains moisture, the concrete will be damp when the mat is lifted. Etch dry and above-grade concrete floors with a 10% muriatic (hydrochloric) acid solution. Rinse well with clean water and allow to dry thoroughly. No primer is required. Apply first coat of floor enamel. Allow to dry overnight and then apply second coat of floor enamel.

IRON AND STEEL - Prime with one coat of alkyd primer and allow to dry overnight before topcoating with floor enamel.

PREVIOUSLY FINISHED SURFACES:
